1 Dead, 49 Sick from E. Coli in McDonald’s Outbreak.

Dozens of individuals nationwide have contracted E. coli linked to ingredients in McDonald’s Quarter Pounders, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported on Tuesday.

In response, McDonald’s has proactively removed two ingredients from its locations in the affected regions but has assured customers that most other menu items remain safe, according to the CDC’s investigation.

So far, 49 people across 10 states have fallen ill with a strain identified as E. coli O157
, which can lead to severe intestinal infections in humans.

The majority of cases have been reported in Colorado, with 27 cases, and Nebraska, with nine cases, as noted by the CDC.

Among those affected, ten individuals have been hospitalized, including a child suffering from complications related to hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a kidney-affecting illness. Additionally, an older adult in Colorado has died due to the outbreak.

The CDC’s investigation revealed that every patient interviewed reported eating at McDonald’s prior to their illness, with most specifically consuming Quarter Pounder hamburgers.
