In a stark warning about the accelerating climate crisis, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres declared on Monday that the past decade has witnessed the 10 hottest years ever recorded. Calling it “climate breakdown in real time,” Guterres emphasized the urgency for global action. He urged countries to drastically cut emissions and fast-track the transition to renewable energy by 2025, or risk a further environmental spiral.
Meanwhile, Taiwan has felt the heat more than most, reporting its highest average annual temperature in over a century. The Central Weather Administration confirmed that in 2024, Taiwan’s annual temperature hit 24.97°C, marking the hottest year since records began in 1897. The climate crisis, it seems, is not just a future threat—it is happening right now.
