Australian police have taken a record US$840 million value of the drug “ice” hidden in stereo speakers shipped from Thailand, officers said Friday.Australian Border Force agents found 1.6 tonnes of methylamphetamine and thirty seven kilograms of hard drug in vacuum-sealed packages lodged within the speakers once the cargo arrived in Melbourne, they said.“This is that the largest upper bust we’ve ever seen during this country,” border force commander Craig palmer said.
The haul size demonstrates “the brazen nature of those involved during this criminal activity,” he added. No arrests were created in reference to the smuggling operation and police appealed to the general public for leads on who was concerned.Palmer said the taken ice had a street worth of A$1.2 billion and was the equivalent of ten per cent of all the drugs taken by the border force within the previous year.
