Casualties reported as Israel strikes Gaza aid dstribution points

Gaza City, Palestine:- several Palestinians lost their lives and many were injured on Saturday as Israeli forces launched attacks on crowds awaiting the arrival of aid trucks east and west of the city.

Medical sources reported to Anadolu that casualties were brought to the Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City after Israeli drones targeted individuals gathered at the Kuwait and Nabulsi Roundabouts, anticipating aid deliveries. The sources noted that many of the injured are in critical condition and lack access to necessary medical treatment.

This incident marks another occurrence where Israeli forces have attacked Palestinians in Gaza City as they awaited aid. On February 29, Israeli troops fired upon a large group of Palestinians south of Gaza City on Al-Rashid Street who were assembled to receive humanitarian aid, resulting in at least 118 deaths and 760 injuries, as per the enclave’s Health Ministry.

Since a cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which resulted in nearly 1,200 fatalities, Israel has conducted a severe military campaign in the Gaza Strip. The ongoing conflict has led to the deaths of at least 30,960 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, and injured 72,524 others amidst widespread destruction and a dire shortage of essential supplies.

A severe blockade imposed by Israel on Gaza has driven the population, especially those in the north where the recent attacks occurred, to the brink of starvation. The war has forced 85% of Gaza’s inhabitants into displacement, struggling with acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicine. Moreover, 60% of the region’s infrastructure has been reported as damaged or destroyed by the UN.

Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice, where an interim ruling in January mandated Tel Aviv to halt genocidal acts and ensure the provision of humanitarian assistance to the civilians in Gaza.–Web Desk
