Champions Trophy 2025 Decision Delayed

The ICC has postponed its board meeting to decide the fate of the 2025 Champions Trophy, after failing to reach an agreement. The meeting will now reconvene tomorrow for further discussions.

During the meeting, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s opposition to the proposed hybrid model for the tournament, insisting that all matches should be held in Pakistan.

Representatives from India explained that the Indian government had not authorized the national team’s travel to Pakistan, maintaining a long-standing point of disagreement between the two nations.

As the deadlock persists, ICC officials have indicated that a vote might be necessary if no consensus is reached. Naqvi reiterated that Pakistan’s stance remains firm and emphasized the need for reciprocity in cricketing ties with India. He stated, “It is not acceptable for us to play in India while they don’t play here. Any resolution will be based on equality.”

Naqvi also commented on the upcoming appointment of Jay Shah as the ICC chairman, expressing hope that Shah would prioritize the interests of the ICC over the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The 2025 Champions Trophy remains at an impasse due to the BCCI’s refusal to send its team to Pakistan and the dispute over the hybrid model, delaying the event’s schedule.
