China paid tribute to former US President Jimmy Carter on Monday, calling him a “key promoter” of US-China relations following his death at age 100. In a statement, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning expressed condolences and highlighted Carter’s crucial role in establishing formal diplomatic ties between the two nations in 1979, a milestone achieved after years of diplomatic negotiations during his presidency. Carter, who served from 1977 to 1981, also contributed significantly to fostering long-term cooperation and friendly exchanges between China and the US.
