Escalating Crisis in Gaza as 30,000 More Displaced

ISTANBUL — The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) reported on Friday that an additional 30,000 people have been displaced due to ongoing Israeli military actions in Rafah, Gaza. This recent surge brings the total number of displaced individuals to over 630,000 since the offensive began on May 6.

UNRWA described the conditions in Deir al-Balah, where many displaced Gazans have sought refuge, as “unbearably overcrowded with dire conditions.” The central Gaza Strip area is struggling to accommodate the influx of displaced persons, exacerbating an already critical humanitarian situation.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, the conflict has resulted in significant casualties, with at least 35,303 Palestinians killed and 79,261 others injured since the offensive commenced on October 7 of the previous year.

Despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire, Israel has continued its extensive military operations across Gaza. The ongoing conflict has devastated large areas of the territory, leaving them in ruins and severely impacting the availability of essential supplies, including food, clean water, and medicine.

The International Court of Justice has accused Israel of “genocide” and has issued orders to Tel Aviv to prevent acts of genocide and ensure the provision of humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza. The situation remains dire, with international calls for an end to the violence and a resolution to the humanitarian crisis.–News Desk
