The former head of the Chicago DEA, who played a key role in capturing notorious drug kingpin El Chapo, is seeking President Trump’s support to lead the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The former agent, who has extensive experience in combating drug trafficking and organized crime, believes his track record makes him the right candidate to take charge of the agency.
In his appeal, he highlighted his success in overseeing high-profile cases, particularly his involvement in the takedown of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán, the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel. The capture of Guzmán, which was a landmark achievement in the fight against global drug trafficking, earned the former DEA chief significant recognition.
The candidate argues that his deep understanding of the inner workings of the drug trade, as well as his leadership skills, would allow him to effectively lead the DEA in its mission to curb drug trafficking and related criminal activities. He stressed the importance of continuing the war on drugs, especially in light of the opioid crisis and the growing threats posed by international drug cartels.
While Trump has not publicly responded to the request, the former DEA chief’s bid is seen as part of a broader effort to influence the future direction of law enforcement agencies under the administration. His experience in tackling some of the most dangerous figures in the drug trade could provide valuable insight and leadership in addressing the current drug crisis.
