Floods in China Claim Over 60 Lives Amid Widespread Destruction

State media reported that the death toll from recent severe rainfalls and floods in China has risen to at least 60 as of Tuesday. The southern regions of the country have faced intense weather conditions since last week, resulting in floods and landslides.

In Hunan province, the discovery of a body has increased the death count by five. The National Meteorological Center has issued its highest alert, a red warning, anticipating severe rainstorms in eight provinces and municipalities, including Anhui and Hunan, over the next three days.

Last week, Guangdong province in the south reported 47 fatalities, with an additional eight individuals missing following a landslide in Douxi village, located in the Xinhuang Dong autonomous county of Huaihua, Hunan.

Moreover, authorities confirmed the death of six individuals on Saturday, previously reported missing due to landslides in Fujian province, located in the southeast.

The annual flood season, which began earlier this year, has already inflicted significant damage, with thousands of low-lying homes destroyed and extensive harm to infrastructure and agriculture across southern China.–News Desk
