Former Israeli Official: Rafah Invasion Won’t Ensure Hostage Return

Former Israeli official, Amos Gilead, stated in a Thursday interview with FM 103 radio that Israel’s planned invasion of Rafah in Gaza does not guarantee the return of Israeli hostages held by Palestinian factions.

Despite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s commitment to the invasion, Gilead cautioned against unilateral action, stressing the need for coordination with Egypt and the U.S. to prevent escalation and preserve strategic alliances.

Gilead emphasized that the primary threat to Israel is Iran, not Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in Gaza, and warned against actions that could strain regional alliances and empower Iran.

He criticized the Israeli government for lacking a coherent strategy, calling for a focus on military achievements linked to broader objectives like Gaza rehabilitation and the return of hostages.

Gilead’s remarks follow reports of progress in indirect negotiations between Israel and Palestinian factions, including discussions on a potential hostage exchange and cease-fire in Gaza.

Israel’s ongoing military offensive in Gaza, which began after a Hamas incursion last year, has resulted in significant casualties and humanitarian crises, with widespread destruction and displacement in the territory.

The international community has raised concerns about potential genocidal acts by Israel and called for measures to alleviate the humanitarian situation in Gaza.–News Desk
