Tragedy struck in northwestern Germany as a fire engulfed a retirement home, claiming the lives of four elderly residents and leaving at least 18 others injured. According to authorities, the blaze broke out during the early hours of the day at a private seniors’ residence in the small town of Bedburg-Hau, escalating rapidly beyond control.
A spokesperson for the fire department informed the public broadcaster WDR that among the injured, one individual was in critical condition, while both a firefighter and a police officer sustained serious injuries during the rescue operation.
Despite the valiant efforts of emergency responders, the cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. However, it’s reported that 46 residents of the facility were successfully rescued, although 15 of them sustained minor injuries.
