ANKARA (Reuters) — Four people were killed and 14 others injured in what the government described as a terrorist attack at the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) headquarters near Ankara on Wednesday. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire and an explosion at the scene. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that two attackers were killed and stated that three of the injured are in critical condition.

TV footage showed armed assailants entering the TUSAS building. Yerlikaya remarked, “Two terrorists were neutralized in the attack on the TUSAS Ankara Kahramankazan site. Unfortunately, we have three martyrs and 14 wounded.”

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, who was attending a BRICS conference in Kazan with Russia’s Vladimir Putin, condemned the attack and accepted condolences from Putin. NATO, the United States, and the European Union also denounced the violence.

The cause of the explosion and the identity of the attackers remain unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility. Prosecutors have initiated an investigation, according to state-run Anadolu.
