(Sunday, May 26, 2024), Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant conducted an operational assessment in Rafah with senior military officials, including Deputy Chief of the General Staff Maj. Gen. Amir Baram and the commanders of Division 162 and the fighting brigades in the area.
During the briefing, Minister Gallant was updated on the troops’ operations, both above and below ground, and the expansion of efforts to dismantle Hamas battalions in additional areas. He also spoke with soldiers on reserve duty in Rafah.
Minister Gallant emphasized the ongoing efforts to return the hostages and dismantle Hamas, stating, “Our goals in Gaza are emphasized here in Rafah – to destroy Hamas, return the hostages, and maintain freedom of operation.”
He assured the troops that significant efforts are being made to address the hostage situation through both kinetic actions and negotiations.
Addressing the soldiers, he said, “Your job is to eliminate Hamas and win this war. Our job is to build on your achievements in Gaza and across the Middle East.”
Minister Gallant reiterated the IDF’s command structure, emphasizing the authority of commanders and the Chief of the General Staff, and thanked the soldiers for their service and sacrifice since October 7th, expressing the appreciation of the entire Israeli public.–News Desk
