Harris Campaign Confirms VP Will Not Appear on Joe Rogan’s Podcast
The campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris has confirmed that she will not be joining The Joe Rogan Experience, a widely popular podcast known for its extensive discussions and large following.
Ian Sams, a spokesperson for Harris’s campaign, shared the news during an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes. He cited scheduling conflicts related to the campaign as the reason for Harris’s inability to participate at this time. “We spoke with Rogan and his team about the podcast, but unfortunately, it won’t work out right now due to our campaign schedule,” Sams stated.
Sams emphasized that Harris is eager to engage with diverse audiences nationwide, showing her openness to participating in various forums to connect with voters.
This decision comes after media speculation that Harris might appear on Rogan’s podcast to reach a broader segment of male voters, a crucial demographic in past elections. Although discussions between Harris’s campaign and Rogan’s team took place earlier in the week, no official appearance was confirmed.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump is set to appear on Rogan’s podcast shortly after Harris’s discussions. Trump’s engagement with Rogan, who boasts over 14 million Spotify followers, underscores the podcast’s significant political influence. Trump has praised Rogan for his ability to connect with a younger audience often disillusioned with traditional media.
Despite their previous differences—Rogan labeling Trump an “existential threat to democracy” in 2022—recent events suggest they may find common ground.
Both men share an interest in combat sports and are friends with UFC CEO Dana White, who has recently commended both. Anticipation is high among Trump supporters, who view this interview as an opportunity for him to engage with undecided or apolitical voters. Speculation is rife on social media regarding potential topics, ranging from Trump’s views on global conflicts to domestic policies.
Rogan’s platform has emerged as a key space for political figures aiming to connect with voters outside conventional media. His informal interview style allows guests to explore a range of topics, from policy discussions to personal stories, leading to both acclaim and criticism, especially for hosting guests with controversial viewpoints.
While Harris’s campaign appears to be focusing on alternative media strategies, she has recently engaged with audiences on platforms favored by female listeners, such as the podcast Call Her Daddy. Additionally, she is scheduled to appear on Brené Brown’s podcast, Unlocking Us, aligning with her efforts to address issues that resonate with female voters, particularly regarding reproductive rights, a central theme of her campaign.
The differing strategies of the Harris and Trump campaigns highlight the shifting landscape of political communication, where podcasts and social media play increasingly significant roles. Harris aims to connect with women through relatable conversations, while Trump seeks to leverage Rogan’s extensive reach to attract younger, primarily male voters.
As the 2024 presidential election approaches, Harris’s decision to skip Rogan’s show may prompt discussions about the effectiveness of various outreach methods. While she may miss the chance to tap into Rogan’s audience, her focus on targeted engagement with specific voter demographics reflects a strategic approach as both campaigns navigate the final stretch of the election cycle.
