Herzog Meets Albanian PM, Urges Global Action for Hostages’ Release

In a landmark visit to Albania, President Isaac Herzog met with Prime Minister Edi Rama in Tirana today, marking the first-ever visit by an Israeli president to the country. The discussions focused on the pressing issue of hostages held by Hamas, as Herzog was accompanied by Idit Ohel, mother of Alon Ohel, one of the 101 hostages still held captive.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Rama, known for his artistic talents, presented Idit with a book of his artworks, expressing his deep support for the families of the hostages and the urgent need to bring them home. Both leaders delivered brief statements emphasizing solidarity between Israel and Albania in the fight against terrorism.

President Herzog expressed gratitude for Albania’s unwavering support for Israel since the brutal Hamas attacks last October. He underscored the importance of international cooperation in securing the release of all hostages and condemned Iran’s involvement in supporting terrorism. “The entire international community must do everything in its power to bring them home. All of them,” Herzog said.

Prime Minister Rama echoed these sentiments, offering heartfelt prayers for the hostages and emphasizing the need for the world to recognize the horrors of terrorism. He added, “History must not repeat itself. This is not only Israel’s responsibility but a sin upon all humanity if we allow it.”

In addition to the discussion on hostages, Rama informed President Herzog of Albania’s decision to open a commercial liaison office in Jerusalem, signifying a strengthened partnership between the two nations.

The visit represents a deepening of ties between Israel and Albania, reflecting a shared commitment to peace and security in the region.–News Desk
