Iran has lodged a formal complaint with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding Israeli threats to strike its nuclear facilities following a missile attack by Tehran earlier this month.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaee announced on Monday that the protest note has been submitted to the UN nuclear watchdog, stating that Iran would pursue these threats through various diplomatic channels.
His comments came as reports emerged of Israel potentially gearing up for a significant attack on Iran in retaliation for the missile strikes on October 1, which Iran claims were responses to the recent killings of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, as well as an Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander.
There are growing concerns that Israeli operations could target Iranian nuclear sites. Baghaee reiterated Iran’s clear position, asserting that any provocation from Israel would be met with a strong response.
He emphasized that Iran’s actions against Israel were carried out under the principle of self-defense and addressed worries regarding the deployment of US anti-missile systems in the region, labeling it a threat to Israel.
Baghaee expressed hope that regional nations recognize their shared responsibility in maintaining peace and security and will prevent their territories from being used for aggression against others in the region.
