Italy is looking to China to play a pivotal role in resolving the ongoing war in Ukraine, as stated by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Thursday. During a meeting in Rome with Li Xi, a senior member of the Chinese Communist Party, Tajani emphasized the importance of China’s influence in achieving a fair and negotiated settlement to the conflict, which has persisted since February 2022.
The discussion also covered enhancing economic cooperation between Italy and China, focusing on trade balance, the agri-food sector, and investment opportunities. Tajani noted that Beijing could significantly contribute to stabilizing the region by discouraging North Korea’s destabilizing actions, particularly in light of North Korea’s recent missile tests.
The dialogue underscores Italy’s strategy to engage China not just for economic ties but also for leveraging its geopolitical influence in addressing pressing global security issues
