“Longest ever” smuggling tunnel tracked down between Mexico-US

Video and pictures of the incredible smuggling tunnel, the longest ever discovered at the states border of Mexico and United States revealed by the American officials. The pipe stretches near 4,309 feet, about a mile, amid Tijuana, Mexico and the outer edge of San Diego.
The tunnel stretches more than 4,300 ft (1,313 meter) at around 70 ft underneath.
The trailblazing tunnel comprises a far reaching rail cart mechanism, a ventilation system, electrical cables and panels of high voltage, an elevator and a drainage arrangement. The tunnel extends to height of 5.5 ft inside. Several hundred sandbags were found which the agents believed as the previous exit, were the disguising entrance. No arrests and seizures taken place following discovery of the tunnel.
It was a striking one, the first ever cross-border smuggling tunnel found in 1990 under El Chapo Guzman, the head of Sinaloa cartel then, when he was trying to find new ways to lug drugs to the US unnoticed, from Texas to California.
The acting special agents in charge of homeland security investigations in San Diego said in statement “The sophistication and length of this particular tunnel demonstrates the time-consuming efforts transnational criminal organizations will undertake to facilitate cross-border smuggling”.
“The investigation continues, and I am confident that our hard work and dedication to uphold the law will lead to future arrests and seizures”, the deputy chief Heike added.
The task force has designed geo radars to help scent out tunnels, but the complex sewage system is a hindrance for technological devices. Tunnels are a means to move drugs to different borders. The San Diego border is highly militarized and fortified as agents look for people trying to cut through the fence.
