Macron: Putin’s Strikes on Ukraine Show No Desire for Peace

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned Russia’s recent airstrikes on Ukraine, stating that they were clear evidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin has no intention of pursuing peace or engaging in negotiations. Macron emphasized France’s commitment to supporting Ukraine, particularly in terms of military assistance, to help the country defend itself.

As he prepared to attend the G20 Summit in Brazil, Macron also addressed concerns regarding trade discussions between the European Union and the Mercosur bloc. He reaffirmed France’s opposition to the trade deal due to concerns about agricultural imports from South America that do not meet European standards. Macron noted that Argentine President Javier Milei shared similar concerns about the agreement, which has faced significant resistance, particularly from French farmers who have planned nationwide protests in response.
