A Russian missile attack on the city of Odesa, in southwestern Ukraine, resulted in at least five deaths and 23 injuries on Monday evening, according to local authorities. Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper reported early Tuesday that the number of fatalities had risen, with eight of the injured currently in serious condition. Medical facilities continue to treat the wounded.
In response to the attack, Governor Kiper declared a day of mourning across the Odesa region on Tuesday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a video address, commended the prompt response of local services and rescuers from the country’s State Emergency Service. He emphasized the importance of efficient and rapid assistance to protect and save lives, which he said was crucial for the resilience of the Ukrainian people.
As of now, Russian authorities have not issued any statements regarding the missile strike. The ongoing conflict, which began in February 2022, has resulted in the deaths of at least 10,500 civilians and over 20,000 injuries, based on UN data.–News Desk
