Morocco Hits Record 15.9M Tourists in 2024

Morocco’s tourism sector has reached a significant milestone, welcoming 15.9 million visitors by November 2024, marking a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2023, according to the Ministry of Tourism. November alone saw a remarkable rise, with 1.3 million tourists arriving, a 31% jump from the previous year, underscoring Morocco’s growing global allure.

A significant portion of this growth stems from Moroccan expatriates, whose visits increased by 17%, contributing an additional 1.1 million arrivals. This highlights the strong ties between Moroccans abroad and their homeland.

Tourism is a cornerstone of Morocco’s economy, accounting for approximately 7% of GDP and serving as a major source of employment and foreign revenue. Recognizing its importance, the country has implemented strategies to attract more visitors, including expanding air connections to key markets and promoting lesser-known destinations to diversify its appeal.

Looking ahead, Morocco aims to sustain its momentum by targeting 17.5 million visitors by 2026 and 26 million by 2030, coinciding with its co-hosting of the FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal. These ambitious goals reflect Morocco’s commitment to establishing itself as a leading global travel destination.

Efforts to enhance infrastructure, improve accessibility, and showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage are integral to Morocco’s strategy, ensuring its tourism sector remains a vital driver of economic growth.
