Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have arrived on Capitol Hill to discuss their roles in shaping President-elect Donald Trump’s government reform agenda. The two business leaders, tapped to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, will work on dismantling federal programs, slashing regulations, and reducing the number of government workers as part of Trump’s “Save America” plan for a second term.
Trump’s plan has raised eyebrows, with Musk and Ramaswamy aiming to drastically reshape the federal bureaucracy. The pair, known for their successful private sector ventures, plan to collaborate with the White House Office of Management and Budget, led by Trump’s nominee Russ Vought. Both Musk and Ramaswamy emphasized the need for structural cuts and a streamlined government, arguing that such changes are necessary for fiscal responsibility.
The duo met with lawmakers behind closed doors to present their vision for budget cuts and government reform. They were invited by House Speaker Mike Johnson to discuss their proposals with congressional leaders. Although neither Musk nor Ramaswamy have direct government experience, they have been strong Trump supporters, especially during his election campaign.
While their efforts are met with mixed reactions, with some worried about potential cuts to essential programs like Social Security and Medicare, both Musk and Ramaswamy remain determined to push forward with their plan, despite concerns about its long-term impact on public services.
