Elon Musk has confirmed that Starlink has applied to launch its internet services in Pakistan but is still awaiting government approval. The tech mogul responded to a post from a Pakistani user on X, who emphasized how Starlink could propel Pakistan into the digital age, connecting citizens and offering new opportunities for growth. The user appealed to Musk, urging him to make Starlink a “bridge to tomorrow” for the country.
In another post, the user claimed that Pakistan had already given the green light for Starlink. He highlighted the urgent need for the service, noting that millions are eager for the connectivity, education, and opportunities Starlink could provide.
Musk’s comments come as Pakistan grapples with severe internet disruptions, topping the list of nations impacted by outages in 2024. According to Top10VPN, a VPN review platform, global internet downtime in 2024 amounted to a staggering 88,788 hours, causing a loss of $7.69 billion. Pakistan, in particular, faced a heavy toll, losing $1.62 billion due to internet disruptions, the highest of any nation, followed by Myanmar and Sudan.
The urgency for reliable internet services in Pakistan has never been greater, and Starlink’s potential arrival could provide much-needed solutions, not just for connectivity but also for the country’s broader economic and educational development.
