Elon Musk’s latest attempt to hold a town hall event on X, the social media platform he owns, was abruptly cut short due to technical difficulties. Scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET, the event faced delays of more than 20 minutes before Musk appeared. Initially promoting a podcast interview with Joe Rogan, Musk attempted to engage with listeners by taking live questions. However, when the line went silent after the operator tried to connect with four individuals, Musk decided to end the event, acknowledging the technical issues. He promised to initiate a regular livestream series but quickly shifted focus to other topics, including a viral story about a squirrel that was euthanized. Following this, Musk briefly started a new livestream that had no audio, further frustrating viewers.
This incident marks the latest in a series of technical glitches that have plagued Musk’s election-related events on the platform. In August, a similar event with former President Donald Trump was delayed by more than 40 minutes, with Musk attributing the problem to a cyberattack, although some experts speculated the delay was simply due to high user demand. Another event to kick off Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s presidential campaign last year was also marred by delays and technical issues. These recurring problems have led to frustration among viewers, casting doubt on X’s ability to host smooth, high-profile events.
