Netanyahu Visits Lebanese Border, Discusses Security Measures Against Hezbollah
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the Lebanese border on November 3, 2024, accompanied by military leaders including Maj.-Gen. Ori Gordin, the Head of Northern Command, and Brig.-Gen. Shai Kalfer, commander of the 91st Division. The visit focused on assessing operational strategies and both defensive and offensive plans for ongoing military activities in the region.
During the tour, Netanyahu met with reserve commanders from the Northern NAHAL Brigade and discussed their combat experiences. He highlighted the changing reality at the border, noting increased military activity and efforts to dismantle Hezbollah’s underground networks, which were allegedly planning attacks in the Galilee.
“Whether or not there is an agreement, restoring calm and ensuring the safety of our northern residents requires pushing Hezbollah beyond the Litani River, preventing any rearmament, and responding firmly to any hostile actions,” Netanyahu stated. He emphasized a commitment to enforcing these measures and disrupting Hezbollah’s supply lines from Iran via Syria.
The Prime Minister praised the sacrifices made by reservists, acknowledging their commitment to defending the nation despite personal costs, including time away from family and employment. He expressed admiration for their readiness and spirit, citing a brigade commander who said, “We have the privilege to defend our country. We are making history.”
To support the reservists and their families, Netanyahu announced that he had brought along the Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office to develop a national government plan. He reiterated that the bravery of both reservists and regular army personnel is crucial to the nation’s future security.
