On October 4, 2024, Army Staff Sgt. Derick Bauman, a flight engineer with the Ohio Army National Guard’s Company B, 2nd Battalion, 238th Aviation Regiment, assisted in relief efforts for communities in western North Carolina impacted by Hurricane Helene. From the rear ramp of a CH-47 Chinook helicopter, Sgt. Bauman ensured a safe landing in the field while distributing essential supplies, including food and water.
The mission was part of a larger operation to provide immediate aid to those affected by the hurricane’s devastation.
