PM Shehbaz criticizes Israeli assaults on Iran, warning they endanger regional tranquility

Pakistan has condemned Israel’s attacks on Iran, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Foreign Office (FO) warning that these actions threaten regional peace and contravene international law.

The strikes occurred amid rising tensions, with Israel targeting military sites in Iran early Saturday in retaliation for Tehran’s alleged recent aggressions, including a large-scale ballistic missile attack on Israel on October 1, where approximately 200 missiles were reportedly launched. This marked Iran’s second direct strike on Israel in six months.

PM Shehbaz expressed Pakistan’s disapproval of Israel’s actions via social media, stating, “Pakistan stands with Tehran and its neighbors in the quest for peace.” He emphasized that Israeli aggression jeopardizes stability in an already tumultuous region and breaches international sovereignty norms.

The FO’s official statement reflected these concerns, labeling the strikes a “dangerous escalation” and a “serious violation” of the United Nations Charter. “Israeli military operations against Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity obstruct the path to regional peace,” the statement asserted.

The FO also called on the United Nations Security Council to intervene and prevent further conflict. “We urge the UN Security Council to fulfill its role in maintaining international peace and to take immediate measures to curb Israeli recklessness in the region,” the FO press release stated.

Regional and International Reactions

Saudi Arabia has also condemned the Israeli strikes, with its Foreign Ministry emphasizing its “firm stance against the escalation of conflict.” Riyadh warned that such actions pose a threat to the security and stability of Middle Eastern nations.

Meanwhile, the United States has urged Iran to cease its attacks on Israel to avoid further violence. “We call on Iran to stop its assaults on Israel to end this cycle of fighting without additional escalation,” stated US National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett.

The region remains tense as fears of ongoing hostilities persist, with nations advocating for de-escalation to safeguard the stability and security of the Middle East.
