Putin Aims to Strengthen Trade and Economic Ties with Iran

During a meeting at the 2024 BRICS summit in Kazan, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that enhancing trade and economic ties with Iran is a top priority. He informed Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that an intergovernmental commission has been assigned to oversee joint projects, including the development of Iran’s railway infrastructure and the construction of additional units at the Bushehr nuclear power plant.

Putin also expressed optimism about finalizing a Free Trade Agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union by the year’s end. He noted that Russia and Iran share similar views on global issues, both aiming for a multipolar world order and adherence to international norms under the United Nations.

Pezeshkian highlighted the strategic nature of Iran-Russia relations, personally overseeing certain agreements and expressing hope for further cooperation through BRICS and other initiatives. He reiterated Iran’s commitment to advancing ties with its “great” neighbor, Russia.
