According to the latest report from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), jobs in the global renewable energy sector surged to 16.2 million last year, marking an 18% increase from 2022. The joint report from the International Labor Organization (ILO) and IRENA, titled “Renewable Energy and Jobs – Annual Review 2024,” highlights that this substantial year-on-year growth is driven by the expanding capacities of renewable energy and the ongoing growth in equipment manufacturing.
China tops the list with approximately 7.4 million renewable energy jobs, accounting for 46% of the global total. The European Union follows with 1.8 million jobs, Brazil with 1.56 million, and both the United States and India are close behind, each nearing 1 million jobs. As in previous years, the rapid growth of the solar photovoltaics (PV) sector was the primary contributor, supporting 7.2 million jobs worldwide, according to IRENA.
