Russia’s forces reported significant gains in eastern Ukraine, capturing the strategic town of Kurakhove, just 32 km from the vital logistics hub of Pokrovsk. This victory, after weeks of intense battle, is seen as key to advancing further into Ukraine’s Donetsk region. However, Ukrainian President Zelensky countered with claims of substantial Russian losses, including nearly 15,000 soldiers in the Kursk region’s ongoing conflict.
While Moscow celebrates the capture of Kurakhove, Ukraine fiercely resists in the area, with reports indicating heavy bombardments and Russian rocket attacks. Ukrainian forces are determined to hold the line, as their defensive positions continue to face Russian onslaughts. Additionally, Ukraine launched a new offensive in the Kursk region, creating a buffer zone while inflicting severe casualties on Russian troops. Moscow, however, maintains its claim that the Ukrainian advance has been thwarted, with major losses inflicted on Kyiv’s forces near Berdin.
Both sides continue to escalate, with Ukraine focusing on defending its foothold in Kursk as a potential peace bargaining chip. Meanwhile, international support for Ukraine remains firm, with the U.S. and the EU reaffirming their backing of Kyiv’s right to defend its sovereignty, even beyond its borders. As Russia pushes deeper into eastern Ukraine, the region remains a volatile flashpoint, with no clear end to the bloodshed in sight.
