Spanish Leagues to Honor Valencia Flood Victims

The Spanish football leagues, including top-tier La Liga EA SPORTS and second-tier La Liga HYPERMOTION, will hold a minute of silence this weekend to honor the victims of the recent floods in Valencia, as announced by the organizers on Wednesday.

In their statement, La Liga expressed condolences and solidarity with the families of those affected by the floods and those still missing.

The catastrophic flooding in Valencia has resulted in 63 confirmed deaths, according to provisional figures from the Interior Ministry. This tragic toll follows a night of devastating flash floods, triggered by the worst storm in decades, comparable only to two others from the 1980s, as reported by Spain’s meteorological agency.

Additionally, Valencia CF, a prominent team in La Liga, has converted its home stadium, Mestalla, into a “food depot and basic necessities” center to support those impacted by the disaster.

On Saturday, Valencia will face defending Spanish champions Real Madrid in a league match at Mestalla.
