UK Takes UN Security Council Presidency for November

UK Assumes UN Security Council Presidency for November

The UK has officially taken over the presidency of the UN Security Council from Switzerland for November, with Ambassador Barbara Woodward highlighting the unprecedented global conflicts currently unfolding. She emphasized that the UK will prioritize addressing major crises, particularly in the Middle East, Ukraine, and Sudan.

During this time of conflict, Woodward noted that over 339 million people depend on humanitarian aid, and she underscored the UN’s crucial role as a lifeline, especially for Palestinians. She called for an immediate cease-fire in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and reiterated that a lasting solution hinges on a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.

Additionally, the UK plans to utilize its presidency to expose Russia’s disinformation campaigns and human rights violations amid ongoing conflicts. The Security Council presidency will transition to the US in December.
