University of Milan cancels partnership with Israeli institution.

The University of Milan has terminated its agreement with Israel’s Reichman University for student and researcher exchanges after Rector Marina Brambilla met with a delegation of Palestinian students advocating for a boycott of Israeli universities, reports indicated on Tuesday.

The university’s administration cited the escalating situation in the Middle East as the reason for this suspension, according to the Italian news agency ANSA.

Student organizations hailed the decision as a “victory,” attributing it to significant pressure from students and faculty.

Earlier this year, the University of Milan also ended its agreement with Ariel University, another Israeli institution, pledging not to renew it following student activism.

Following the lead of numerous students worldwide, the university’s students organized a sit-in on campus earlier this year to protest Israel’s actions in Gaza and its connections with Israeli educational institutions.

The Israeli military has maintained a severe offensive in the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by Hamas last October, despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire.
