US Declares No Security Threat from 5,000 Drone Sightings

Surge in Drone Sightings Sparks Concerns, But US Officials Rule Out Threat

A flurry of drone sightings across northeastern US states has stirred public curiosity and concern, but federal agencies have assured that these mysterious objects pose no danger to national security or public safety.

In a joint statement on Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, FBI, and FAA clarified that there is no evidence of anything unusual in the reports. “We have found no anomalies and assess no current risks to civilian airspace or public safety in New Jersey or other northeastern states,” the statement said.

Over recent weeks, residents in states like New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia have been alarmed by unidentified drones, some of which have appeared larger than usual and been captured in nighttime footage circulating online. Social media buzz and speculative theories — from UFOs to foreign espionage — have only added to the mystery.

The FBI has received over 5,000 tips so far, generating roughly 100 actionable leads. In response, the government has ramped up efforts by deploying advanced detection systems and trained observers to pinpoint the source of these sightings.

While more than a million drones are legally registered in the US, operating daily for recreation, commerce, and law enforcement, the scale and timing of the latest sightings have raised eyebrows. Notable incidents include drones spotted near President-elect Donald Trump’s golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey, and the Picatinny Arsenal, a military facility in the same state.

The FAA enforces strict rules for drone use, particularly around sensitive areas and airports. However, this hasn’t stopped the speculation. Some suggest these sightings could be linked to foreign surveillance, potentially from adversaries like China or Iran.

Even across the Atlantic, the intrigue continues, with drone activity reported near UK military sites. However, US officials have dismissed these as non-hostile.

The mystery has prompted Trump himself to demand answers. On Monday, he called for greater government transparency, saying, “The US government knows what’s happening.”

While the skies remain abuzz with drones, officials maintain there’s no need to hit the panic button — at least for now.
