Second Ancient Gold Ring Unearthed in Jerusalem’s City of David Within a Year
The Israel Antiquities Authority has announced the discovery of a second ancient gold ring in less than a year at the City of David, a key archaeological site in Jerusalem. This significant find adds to the growing evidence of the historical and cultural richness of the area, which continues to yield important artifacts from ancient times.
Archaeologists uncovered the delicate gold ring during ongoing excavations aimed at preserving and understanding the heritage of one of the oldest parts of Jerusalem. The ring, believed to date back to the Roman period, is exceptionally well-preserved and may have belonged to a child, given its small size.
Experts say such discoveries shed light on the lives of people who lived in Jerusalem thousands of years ago and help piece together a more detailed picture of the city’s ancient past. The first gold ring, found just months earlier, was similarly dated and also discovered in the same vicinity.
The City of David is a prominent archaeological site located just south of the Old City walls and is widely regarded as the original core of ancient Jerusalem. Excavations are carried out under the supervision of the Israel Antiquities Authority, in collaboration with the City of David Foundation.
