Mumbai police are investigating a bomb threat to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) after an email written in Russian warned of an explosive attack. The threat was directed to the email of newly appointed RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra. A senior officer confirmed that a case has been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
This incident comes amid a surge of bomb threats across India this year, many of which have turned out to be hoaxes. Earlier this week, around 40 schools in New Delhi received bomb threats demanding a ransom of $30,000. Police have conducted searches at the affected schools, but no explosives have been found.
Authorities are still determining whether these threats are genuine or just part of a larger hoax trend, which has targeted various public places, including schools, airports, and railway stations. As a precaution, some parents picked up their children from schools.
Delhi Police are working to track down the source of the emails, while the Delhi Chief Minister, Atishi, criticized the federal government for not ensuring the safety of residents. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have assured the public that safety measures are in place to protect students and staff.
