Chicago Family Claims Uber Driver Stole UPS-Bound Packages

Chicago Couple Accuses Uber Courier of Package Theft After Failed UPS Delivery

$5 Uber Pickup May Cost Couple Over $1,000 in Lost Items

CHICAGO — A local couple is accusing an Uber courier of stealing packages that were meant to be dropped off at a UPS store, claiming the trusted service cost them over $1,000 in lost merchandise.

The Chicago residents said they used Uber’s package delivery feature to schedule a pickup, expecting the driver to drop off four parcels at a nearby UPS location for just $5. Surveillance footage shows the driver loading the packages into his vehicle and leaving the residence.

However, shortly after departure, the couple noticed something suspicious. According to them, the driver began heading in the opposite direction of the UPS store. When De Haan’s wife messaged the courier about the detour, the driver abruptly canceled the delivery through the Uber app and ceased all communication.

Despite providing video evidence of the incident, the family claims they’ve received no clear answers or support from Uber. The situation has raised serious concerns about the safety and reliability of third-party courier services, even those offered by well-known platforms like Uber.

The De Haans are urging the company to investigate the matter and take accountability, as their experience highlights potential vulnerabilities in app-based delivery services.
