EU fines Meta $841M for antitrust violations

The European Commission has fined Meta €797.72 million ($841 million) for breaching EU antitrust laws. The fine stems from Meta’s unfair promotion of Facebook Marketplace by automatically integrating it with the main Facebook app, giving it an unfair edge over competitors. The commission found that this forced tie-in made it harder for other classified ad services to compete. Additionally, Meta was found to have used data from ads on Facebook and Instagram to benefit Marketplace, further disadvantaging rivals. Meta has been ordered to cease these practices immediately.
