
On the fourth day of her official visit to China, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz visited Huawei Technologies in Shanghai’s Longgang District, receiving a warm reception. During the visit, she announced a strategic partnership with Huawei to develop Lahore into Pakistan’s first advanced smart city.
Maryam invited Huawei to invest in Pakistan, particularly in Punjab, and extended support for establishing an office in the Nawaz Sharif IT City. She highlighted Huawei’s expertise in telecommunications, electronics, and digital innovation as key to fostering impactful collaborations.
The chief minister assured Huawei of complete cooperation in setting up assembly and manufacturing facilities in Punjab. She also suggested the establishment of Huawei retail outlets and after-sales service centers across the province to enhance digital accessibility.
In discussions with Huawei’s President for Government Affairs, Wang Chengdong, Maryam explored potential projects in e-commerce, ecosystem production, and the digitization of health and education sectors. Chengdong provided an overview of Huawei’s ongoing initiatives in Pakistan, especially in Punjab.
Maryam praised Huawei’s contributions to Lahore’s Safe City projects and expressed interest in their health and education programs, which align with Punjab’s digital transformation objectives. She invited Huawei to expand its role in building a comprehensive digital ecosystem in the province and proposed their involvement in capacity-building programs and IT research at Punjab’s first AI-powered university.
The CM reiterated her commitment to leveraging global partnerships like Huawei’s to achieve Punjab’s vision for digital advancement. She emphasized the importance of providing the province’s youth with access to cutting-edge technologies through such collaborations.
The visit concluded with Maryam touring Huawei’s facilities and exploring opportunities for further partnerships, marking a significant step toward realizing Lahore’s transformation into a state-of-the-art smart city.
