Iraqi FM visits Pentagon to strengthen ties with US

During a meeting at the Pentagon on March 26, Acting Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Ms. Sasha Baker, welcomed Fuad Hussein, the Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs. In this significant engagement, both parties pledged to further the U.S.-Iraq relationship based on mutual interests, emphasizing their dedication to Iraq’s sovereignty and security as outlined in the Strategic Framework Agreement.

Ms. Baker lauded the joint efforts in defending the forces of Iraq, the U.S., and their allies, highlighting the dangers posed by Iran-affiliated militias. She pointed out that such threats not only undermine counterterrorism initiatives but also give ISIS opportunities to expand its operations, endangering innocent lives.

The discussions also touched upon their shared dedication to the Higher Military Commission and the anticipation of a productive visit by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’a Al-Sudani to Washington D.C. the following month. This visit is expected to include high-level meetings with U.S. defense and government leaders, further cementing the partnership between the two nations.–Web Desk
