Israel MOD Signs $115 Million Contract with SCD for Advanced Infrared Sensors

Strategic Agreement Signed
The Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD) Director General, Maj. Gen. (Res.) Amir Baram, signed a multi-year contract with Semiconductor Devices (SCD). The deal is valued at approximately $115 million (around NIS 380 million). The agreement was managed through the R&D Division of IMOD’s Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D).

Expansion of Manufacturing Capabilities
Under the contract, SCD will expand its facilities and production infrastructure. This upgrade will support next-generation infrared (IR) sensors across the SWIR, MWIR, and LWIR spectrum. These sensors will serve high-end applications such as area dominance, airborne payloads, space systems, and large defense platforms.

Strengthening Israel’s Defense Industry
Manufacturing will take place at SCD’s domestic facilities. This aligns with IMOD’s goal to reinforce Israel’s defense production base and local industries. As a result, the IDF will have access to advanced technologies, which will help address modern warfare challenges.

Comments from Defense Leaders
Brig. Gen. (Res.) Dr. Daniel Gold, Head of DDR&D, said, “We aim to strengthen Israeli independence across the entire value chain. By building domestic production for IR technologies, we ensure long-term technological superiority.”

Brig. Gen. Yehuda Elmakayes, Head of DDR&D’s R&D Division, added, “Investing in infrastructure will increase capacity for next-generation IR detectors. SCD sensors already support many IDF electro-optical systems. This project will allow expanded procurement and future system development.”
