Japan Airlines Flights Resume After Cyberattack Disruption

Japan Airlines Recovers from Cyberattack, Resumes Ticket Sales

Japan Airlines (JAL) announced on Thursday that operations were back on track after a cyberattack temporarily grounded parts of its system. The disruption, which struck early at 7:24 a.m., caused delays for some domestic and international flights, forcing the airline to halt same-day ticket sales.

The issue traced back to a malfunctioning router, which JAL swiftly shut down to contain the impact. Fortunately, no customer data was compromised, and the airline avoided any damage from malicious software. By Thursday afternoon, systems were restored, and ticket sales resumed smoothly.

Rival airline ANA Holdings reported no signs of similar issues, reassuring travelers of its system’s security.

In a separate incident on Christmas Eve, American Airlines faced its own technical hiccup when network hardware glitches grounded flights for an hour, leading to holiday travel chaos.

While both airlines acted quickly to minimize disruptions, the incidents underscore the vulnerability of aviation systems in an increasingly digital world.
