Kim Moon-soo Reinstated as South Korea’s Conservative Presidential Candidate

South Korea’s People Power Party Reverses Decision, Backs Kim Moon-soo

South Korea’s PPP Reinstates Kim Moon-soo as Presidential Candidate After Brief Ouster

SEOUL — South Korea’s People Power Party (PPP) reinstated former labor minister Kim Moon-soo as its presidential candidate on Saturday, just hours after revoking his nomination and attempting to replace him with a former prime minister.

The conservative party has been mired in internal strife following the ouster of its former president, Yoon Suk Yeol, who declared martial law in December.

Kim Moon-soo, who secured victory in the PPP’s primary last week, had his candidacy briefly withdrawn amid party disputes. However, the decision was quickly reversed, restoring him as the official nominee for the upcoming presidential election scheduled for June 3.

The swift turn of events highlights ongoing political instability within the PPP as it attempts to consolidate its position ahead of the national vote.
