Measles cases in Europe soar 200% amid global rise, WHO and CDC report

Measles cases have increased by over 200% in Europe in 2023, with more than 306,000 cases reported, compared to 99,700 the previous year. This surge is part of a global trend, with 10.3 million cases worldwide, marking a 20% increase from 2022. The rise is attributed to stalled immunization efforts, as global vaccination coverage remains insufficient. Only 83% of children received the first dose, and less than 75% received the second. Experts emphasize that with universal access to the measles vaccine, these outbreaks could be prevented, saving lives and reducing health complications.
