Suspect Arrested in Foiled Assassination Plot in New York
HOUSTON, United States:
Authorities in New York have stopped a planned assassination after arresting a man accused of preparing a violent attack against a pro-Palestinian activist. The New York Police Department (NYPD), working alongside the FBI, confirmed the arrest on Friday following an undercover investigation.
Weapons Discovered During Investigation
Police arrested 26-year-old Alexander Heifler at his residence in New Jersey. During a search of his home, officers recovered eight Molotov cocktails, which investigators believe he intended to use in the planned attack.
Although officials have not officially confirmed a motive, court documents indicate that Heifler had been planning the attack for several weeks.
Target Identified as Prominent Activist
According to investigators, Heifler allegedly intended to target Nerdeen Kiswani, a well-known pro-Palestinian activist and co-founder of the group Within Our Lifetime. Authorities revealed that he discussed using the explosives against vehicles and possibly throwing one into her home.
Undercover Operation Prevents Attack
The case developed after an undercover officer joined a group conversation in February, where Heifler reportedly spoke about building Molotov cocktails for so-called self-defense. Soon after, the officer met him in person multiple times.
During these meetings, the suspect and the undercover officer assembled the explosive devices together. Law enforcement officials then moved quickly and arrested him before any attack could take place.
Links to Extremist Group Alleged
Investigators have identified Heifler as a member of a faction linked to the Jewish Defense League, which the FBI has classified as a terrorist organization. This connection further raised concerns about the seriousness of the planned attack.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Authorities are currently holding Heifler without bail as he awaits his next court appearance. If convicted, he could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
