Tourists Stranded on Socotra as Yemen Clashes Disrupt Flights

Hundreds of Tourists Stranded on Yemeni Island Amid Mainland Clashes

Around 400 tourists remain stranded on the Yemeni island of Socotra after flights were suspended due to ongoing clashes on the mainland. Fighting has erupted between government forces backed by Saudi Arabia and secessionist groups allied with the United Arab Emirates.

Flights Grounded Amid Conflict

In recent days, air travel in and out of Yemen has been severely restricted as armed factions, loosely aligned with Yemen’s fragmented government, battle for control. The government is based in the southern port city of Aden.

Ports and Airports to Reopen Soon

Hadramout Governor said that ports and airports on Socotra will soon resume operations, following the ousting of southern secessionists by Saudi-backed government troops. Authorities are working to restore safe and regular travel to the island.

The incident highlights the challenges for tourism and transport in Yemen as internal tensions continue to disrupt civilian life.
