The Somali army successfully eliminated over 19 al-Shabaab terrorists in a series of airstrikes targeting the regions of Middle Shabelle and Galgadud, according to a government statement. The operations, lasting more than 24 hours, struck key terrorist positions in the remote areas of Run-Nirgod, Masagaway, and El-Dher.
In the first phase of the operation, which took place in the village of Geed Ma’arke, Somali forces killed 14 terrorists who were preparing for an attack. The Information Ministry reported additional strikes at a terrorist checkpoint, resulting in the deaths of five more al-Shabaab members. Military vehicles used by the group were also destroyed.
Al-Shabaab, affiliated with al-Qaeda, has been waging a violent insurgency against Somalia’s federal government and the African Union peacekeeping forces since 2007, frequently launching bomb attacks in densely populated areas across the country.–News Desk
