The United States and South Korea reaffirmed their strategic defense partnership during the 26th Korea-U.S. Integrated Defense Dialogue (KIDD), held May 1–2, 2025, in Washington, D.C. Senior defense and foreign policy officials from both nations participated in high-level discussions aimed at deepening bilateral military cooperation and advancing shared security goals.

Leading the U.S. delegation were Mr. John Noh, Performing the Duties of Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, and Mr. Andrew Winternitz, PTDO Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asia. The Republic of Korea was represented by Deputy Minister for National Defense Policy, Mr. Cho Chang-rae.

Officials reviewed the overall state of defense collaboration and discussed strategic policies to strengthen the U.S.-ROK alliance. The dialogue emphasized reinforcing cooperation to address regional security challenges, particularly on the Korean Peninsula and across the broader Indo-Pacific.

Following the dialogue, Mr. Cho met with Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Elbridge Colby, to evaluate the outcomes of the KIDD and explore further alliance-building opportunities. Both sides agreed that the dialogue laid a solid foundation for actionable cooperation and expressed gratitude to the military and civilian personnel dedicated to alliance strengthening.
