UN ‘concerned’ by continuing Israeli strikes in Gaza

A UN official expressed alarm on Friday over the ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza, which have resulted in a significant loss of Palestinian lives. Stephanie Tremblay, a UN spokeswoman, told reporters that the continuing assaults are deeply concerning, especially as they have left numerous Palestinians dead. Tremblay highlighted reports of a recent airstrike near Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, in which dozens, including medical staff, were killed. In addition, the Israeli forces reportedly set parts of the hospital on fire, and staff and patients were forcibly removed.

Tremblay also noted that humanitarian access to northern Gaza continues to be obstructed, with a recent attempt by the UN to deliver aid being denied by Israeli authorities. Meanwhile, in the West Bank, Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 20 Palestinians in a 10-day period, with heavy damage to infrastructure, particularly in Tulkarm’s refugee camp. The UN has raised concerns about Israel’s military tactics, which it views as disproportionately violent.

This comes amid a larger humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where the Israeli offensive has displaced thousands and left the population on the brink of famine. Since the escalation began in October, the conflict has resulted in more than 45,000 Palestinian deaths. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for alleged war crimes, and Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
