US accuses Russia of ‘unsafe’ Mediterranean intercept

Russia has previously defended its military flights and maneuvers in the Mediterranean, saying they are carried out according to international airspace regulations.

WASHINGTON- The United States expressed extreme criticism on recent unsafe and unprofessional intercept of a Navy plane which was carried out by Russia on Tuesday.

“The intercept because of the Russian pilots taking close station on each wing of the P-8A, banning the P-8A’s ability to safely maneuver, was determined to be unsafe and unprofessional due. Such actions will have increase in the potential for midair collisions,” the statement further added.

The actions made by pilots were extremely condemned by Navy by calling the pilots’ actions “unnecessary” and expressed criticism. Navy further accused them of being “inconsistent with good airmanship and international flight rules” and in so doing imperiled their safety.

It has been stressed with facts that this incident took place on Tuesday marked the third such incident in the past two months, acknowledged Navy.
